In the world of creative arts, there are moments of magic when talented artists collaborate to bring a vision to life. In this blog post, we'll take you behind the scenes of the CMA award-winning song Kelsea Ballerini's "Half Of My Hometown," featuring country music icon Kenny Chesney.
Wyatt Scott Kassin and Kylie Rebecca Conceptualized this project in collaboration with Kelsea's management company Black River Entertainment, Their vision was to encapsulate the essence of Kelsea's journey, painting a vivid picture of the emotions she experienced.
Dream Collaboration
An especially touching moment comes in the very last chorus when Ballerini and Chesney name their hometown -- "Knoxville, Tennessee." "Half of My Hometown" was written by Ballerini and songwriters Ross Copperman, Nicolle Galyon, Shane McAnally and Jimmy Robbins, and the country singer confirmed the track was inspired by her own experience.
"Besides being a dream collaboration with Kenny, which I still can't believe happened, this is really a love letter to home," Ballerini said, according to Sounds Like Nashville. "It can be about wherever you're from and the people who love you, support you, drove you crazy, made you cry, and made you who you are."
Ballerini illustrated the story of "Half of My Hometown" in the song's official music video,which shows what her life could have looked like had she followed a different path. She also performed the song alongside Chesney at the 56th ACM Awards in April. After its release, "Half of My Hometown" peaked at No. 30 on Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and No. 24 on the Country Airplay chart.
In a dedicated two-week effort, we brought this vision to life through retro aesthetics, rotoscoping and creative composition. The final result was a visually stunning and emotionally resonant lyric video, pairing perfectly alongside of the "Music Video Of The Year".
